The goldies, as they are so lovingly called, are in the process of molting away their dull winter feathers and are changing into their bright yellow spring garb. I think this is a little female. She was checking me out as I approached some brambles which were likely hiding her nest. The male was singing nearby, close to the same brambles. These little birds are as common as they get, but they are easily one of my favorite birds. Most likely because they are so accommodating when it comes to photographs. :)

Cool post! Funny, I was just thinking about molting goldfinches yesterday. I looked out my window, and the finch was a beautiful bright yellow. I told him, great job on the molting thing!

Love your Gold-finch shots along with those fresh green leaves. I'm watching the molt too. There is no brighter bird than a fully charged male Goldie!
